Stun extends league lead with 3-1 win over Patriots

At the dustbowl on Wednesday, league leaders Stun and a revived Patriots team played a quality game. Stun put 3 in the net in the first half, capped off by Darin's turn-and-shoot that found a gap in the Patriot defense. The Patriots fought back in the second half and were able to convert one by their consistent Zanzibari striker Heri. Justin Wood and Heri had numerous chances to score including a header that went barely over the crossbar, and an gift for Heri in front of Stun's goal that just missed. Sarge in Stun's goal had a strong performance and a critical factor in Stun's win.

Stun's executive spokesman, and strong defender, Richard said: "A very solid first half defensively, became a bit shaky in the last twenty minutes. Big ups to Sarge in goal, putting his body on the line and to both teams for not quitting for the whole game. It was a good game of football with some excellent passing and movement from both sides."

Juan, encouraged by his team's performance, but nonetheless disappointed by the result said: "Patriots put up a good fight. We fought for the ball in the midfield and had many missed opportunities in the second half, but our efforts could not prevent a victory for a strong Stun side."

For the record, it was actually 3-1. A very solid first half defensively, became a bit shaky in the last twenty minutes.

Big ups to Sarge in goal, putting his body on the line and to both teams for not quitting for the whole game. It was a good game of football with some excellent passing and movement from both sides.

More to follow, right now I've got to watch 'Lost' that I Tivod !

slugger said it. Good game, all around. Plenty of opportunities from the Patriot side that did not get finished. Many from the Stun side as well. I hope we can play you again at some point.

slugger,
so what is the scenerio for the
playoff picture...
stun locks up 1st with a draw/win... or el fuego draw/loss

el fuego needs a win and stun loss to tie... so how does the tiebreaker work? point diff?

There were more scoring opportunities in that game than at Woodys at 1:55 AM on a Sunday !

STUN was two nil up at the half after a stellar performance from the back four in particular (if I do say so myself, as a sweeper!) which did not allow a single shot on goal for the entire half. Karim scored a contender for goal of the season, after a seven or eight man move was capped by a sumptuous one-two with T.O. as Karim left a helpless goalie with no chance.

We created a ton of scoring opportunities and we were wishing we'd cashed a few more in as the Pats started to throw more men in to midfield in the second half. Mike lost his STUN cherry with a fine strike from way outside the box on the left wing and we were three nil up. Sarge made the call from the back that we couldn't let up but we seemed to relax a little and started to lose the midfield battles. After a period of pressure from the Pats Heri got on the end of a quick throw in and stuck one past Sarge who had been left out to dry by yours truly - sorry Pauric.

The Pats kept on trying and STUN was still generating scoring chances but as we were seemingly unable to hit a cow's arse with a banjo we weren't going to score again. We were playing out for the whistle and were happy to leave without surrendering another goal and maintaining that all important positive goal difference.

Thanks to the Pats for being good sports as we didn't have a ref and good luck for your remaining games.
